It Began with a Creative Spirit
I sold my 1983 VW Vanagon to fund my passage from Houston to Austin. Arriving in 1996, the thriving music scene and collective art communities drew and inspired me. Together, as a group of like-minded individuals, we organized multi-media experiences. Music, art, video projections, even 5-cent advice tables could be found at these eclectic events. Up and coming local beer companies like Real Ale provided financial sponsorship and booziness.
Soon technology took over the hands-on organic cut-and-paste forms of designing fliers. I needed to learn Photoshop. Bands suddenly needed websites. I needed to learn Dreamweaver. Bands also need cool vector designed t-shirts and album covers. I needed to learn Illustrator.
Back to School
This began my journey into learning the Adobe CS. In 2007, I decided to return to school. I studied visual communications, interactive design, and graphic design at Austin Community College.
Through advanced student internships that involved real-life design and development projects, I found myself immersed in a true learning experience. And loving it!
Eventually, I earned an A.A.S. in Visual Communications specializing in Interactive Design in 2010. Before graduation, I had even landed a job with ACC through a recommendation from the Director of a web development department I was interning with.
The Birth of Stop Rewind Design
Stop Rewind Design was founded in 2012. By then, I had accumulated a decent portfolio and wanted to work towards a more complex creative goal.
I could be considered a number of things. The founder, the project manager, a freelance designer and developer…I decided on Creative Director because I liked the ring of that. Wearing a number of hats is great if you can manage it. Sometimes you can’t.
Enter the vast community of other freelance designers, developers, copywriters, photographers and other creative go-to’s.
